Science Rotations - How the World Works

Students predicted how food dyes from chocolate buttons would mix in water. The surprising results demonstrated the role of prior knowledge in making predictions. The food dye in the outer layer of the coating travels with the dissolved sugar. Because sugar is more dense than water, it sinks as it dissolves and spreads to areas of lower sugar concentration. This lesson was also perfect for working cooperatively in small groups
